“What do I think of our initiations? Horrendous, disgusting. Necessary.”

Sir Martin Hideo Ishi-Ya
Admiral Commanding, Imperial Navy Intelligence

On her very first evening as an officer of the Navy, Kate Altaris told some… thing that she’d give anything to truly satisfy her curiosity.

And something came to collect.

Navy Intelligence – the Black Stars – have sought her out, ‘offering’ her a position on a ship so secret that not even the outer hull always tells the truth, along with stakes so high that getting it wrong undercover can lead to fates far worse than mere death in battle.

Kate has little time to prepare before being thrown into her first mission, and what happens behind those Tadhran lines will show Kate a side to her beloved Navy that she never even imagined existed.

And the mission that follows will take her ship into the very heart of the Tadhrania, to spy on Tallard Prime itself, gathering information so momentous that it could change the outcome of the war.

In this world of shadows where neither triumph is lauded, nor death is mourned, Kate must rely on every resource she has, not merely to survive herself, but to keep safe the lives of billions.

But if, somehow, she can win, then the prize could be the love of her life.r
